No. 59 - 20 May 1737

Honaji Shinde describes the capture of the fort of Manor to Chimaji.

I am writing on Friday, from Manor. I was ordered to Manor, which we reached on 28 Moharam. I was assigned an artillery battery. I posted some men with jezails at the battery and surveyed the fort. There were 5-7 such batteries- my battery, Avaji Kavde, Rajashri Barvaji Takpir, Rajashri Vitthalpant, and Rajashri Gopal Mahadev and others. The Portuguese fired heavily at us for 2 or 3 days. After a few days, our batteries got quite close from all 4 sides. By then, they had taken casualties. On the third day, we scaled the bastions and seized some. We also captured their grain storage. It was fully stocked. The government's flag flew high.

No. 183 3 April 1739

Shankarji Keshav informs Chimaji that he cannot send any surgeon to dress the wounds of Ramaji Surve.

The Swami has written a letter to me, that Ramji Surve is injured, and needs a surgeon. It has orders to send one Siphai Bhorapkar, in the employ of Rajashri Padaji Karke. I spoke to Padaji Karke, but he said that he does not know any surgical work. So he has not been dispatched. If he is still needed, I will send him. The spy Shaji has informed us that the secret message he sent has been received.
